MTDC committed to strengthening MSME’s business network via Expo 2020 Dubai

Bernama – 13 Oct 2021

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 — The Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) is committed to strengthening the international business network of local companies, especially micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through Expo 2020 Dubai.

Chief executive officer Datuk Norhalim Yunus said the corporation will continue its efforts to connect local companies with global technology industry players through business matching sessions.

Recently, its efforts had culminated in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) at Expo 2020 Dubai between companies under MTDC and potential customers.

“The MoUs are the result of the business network that we have established since MTDC began operating in 1992, and we have always been collaborating with MSMEs in their efforts to connect with potential clients,” he said to Bernama.

Norhalim said one of the companies that took advantage of the facilities provided by MTDC was Euro-Circuit Technology Sdn Bhd, a company that offers biodegradable water-based oil treatment technology, Bio-Solv.

The company had received RM4.3 million from the Business Start-up Fund to commercialise its research results in the Malaysian and international markets.

Following its participation in the Expo 2020 Dubai, Euro-Circuit Technology had inked an MoU with Modern Arab Laboratories LLC to supply the Bio-Solv to the oil and gas (O&G) and power generation industries as well as port and shipping authorities.

The company had also signed an MoU with Bardwil Specialities Qatar WLL and Al Ghad Al Zahir for Oilfield Ltd to supply its product to the O&G industry in Kuwait and Iraq.

“This company is one of the examples where MTDC had helped in entrepreneur development, from academic research activities to bringing the technology to the international market,” said Norhalim.

Euro-Circuit Technology founder and managing director, Noor Hisham Ab Hamid said the funds channelled by MTDC since 2016 helped to place the company in a strategic position and strengthen its business at the international level.

The company’s green technology-based innovation attracted the interest of not only local O&G industry players, but also several other O&G producing countries, he said.

The biodegradable water-based oil treatment technology is one of the innovations that are being featured at the Malaysia Pavilion of Expo 2020 Dubai.

“This is the first time that we have ever participated in such an event. Previously, we had only engaged directly with foreign companies that had expressed their interest in the technology and agreed to collaborate with us,” said Noor Hisham.

Euro-Circuit Technology’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai is in line with the Malaysia Pavilion’s theme, ‘Energising Sustainability’, highlighting Malaysia’s vision for sustainability.

MTDC’s participation in the second week of the Expo Dubai 2020 was led by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, with the Malaysian Center for Climate Change and Green Technology as the implementing agency.
