Unimas inks pact with MTDC

KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) has linked up with Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) to enhance innovation, technology development, human capital and entrepreneurship.
Speaking at the exchange of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two parties, Unimas vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi said the collaboration was timely to support the activities of the varsity students and staff.
“It is a privilege and an honour for us to be partner with MTDC in this very important area of giving opportunities to our students and staff.
“This collaboration will focus on entrepreneurship and the possibility identifying industry partners to bring our research (products) from the laboratory to the market.
“We appreciate the effort by MTDC in this aspect because we need all the help, we can get to support the activities of our students and our staff in this very important area,” he said yesterday (Sept 15).
Meanwhile, MTDC chief executive officer Datuk Norhalim Yunus, who was also present during the virtual ceremony, said with the collaboration, the two parties could work together on inculcating technology-based knowledge.
“I hope that through this collaboration, we will work together to equip students and researchers with the necessary guidance, knowledge and skills on Industrial Revolution (IR) 4.0 technology,” he said.
In a statement, Unimas said the strategic collaboration between Unimas and MTDC would create closer ties between academia and industry as well as encourage more exchanges of knowledge and experiences between the two parties.
“It will create a more conducive environment through a comprehensive support system and enhance innovation while enhancing technology development initiatives, human capital and entrepreneurship among students and researchers,” it said.
Meanwhile, MTDC said it viewed the MOU with Unimas as a strategic partnership in the areas of technology, entrepreneurship, advisory services, student internships and graduate employment, especially in IR4.0.
It said it would work with 100 entrepreneurs who were Unimas students and researchers by the first quarter of next year.
