KUCHING: The exchange of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Sarawak Skills Development Centre (Sarawak Skills) and the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) is expected to pave the way for the adoption of new strategies for digital transformation in the industry.
Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak Datuk Ronald Sagah Wee Inn said the collaboration was a step towards Sarawak’s goal of becoming a developed state by 2030.
“The exchange of this memorandum is timely, in line with the ongoing initiatives and strategies of the Sarawak government under the Sarawak Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS2030).
“It is an effort by Sarawak to develop a technology-driven economy with emphasis on environmental sustainability,” Sagah said in his speech at the MoU signing between Sarawak Skills and MTDC at the Sarawak Skills Auditorium, here, yesterday (April 27).
Meanwhile, Sagah took the opportunity to praise both parties for implementing the mutually beneficial strategic plan.
Through the strategic plan, he said, various Industry 4.0 solutions would be offered based on the suitability of Sarawak’s existing industry sectors.
“It will be very important in supporting PCDS2030, especially in terms of Accelerating Digital Utilisation and Utilisation of Data to Generate Revenue (Strategic Thrust No. 5),” he said.
He said education was a key component in human capital development to improve the efficiency of the workforce and help improve the economic value chain, stressing the state. government had always emphasised the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as well as strengthening Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education to produce much-needed human capital to support state development initiatives.
“To support the ongoing efforts to move towards a digital economy, there is an urgent need to equip the workforce with relevant knowledge and skills in line with current and future developments in various sectors.
“Therefore, the existence of strategic cooperation between the government, various industry sectors and institutions or secondary education is important for the success of the mission,” he said.
